Where there's a Will.....

There's a Wait!!!

Prince William of the NICU is making his rounds checking out local hospitals.  He has hit three in the last 21 days and ridden in 2 different ambulances....just to wait for surgery!!

("Why did they put this girly blanket on me, mommy?")

Here's the update on the Crazy Life of the Cunninghams:
Surgery has FINALLY been scheduled for next Wednesday, June 6th.  This mommy is not so happy about it either.  My baby has been in a holding pattern since last Tuesday, May 22nd!  And, we just now know that he is on the books for surgery.  I had a mommy breakdown last night with the Cardiology NP and another one this morning during rounds.  Am I okay with his surgery next week--NO but do I have a choice???  NO!

I just want William to get better.  Everyday, we are in the hospital is one more day that we delay a homecoming.  Each day has brought new challenges for William and the rest of our family.  Earlier this week, Will was doing great--stable as can be when you have very limited oxygenated blood supply circulating through your heart.  Thank God for his septal defect that is keeping him alive.  Never did we think we would be praising God for a large hole in our baby's heart...but, we are!!  If not for his large ASD, we wouldn't be telling his story!  As the days have progressed, his needs for care have increased.  His oxygen demands are getting to be more and more.  His diuretics have changed to twice daily dosing rather than once daily dosing.  And, today, he had to receive his first blood transfusion for anemia!  Poor guy!  So, we are WAITING for next week not so patiently.
Will at 21 days old!  (Why wouldn't he have a blocked tear duct, too?

Mackenzie and Carson had a great weekend with mommy and daddy.  Playing on the playground at Children's Mercy, playing in the fountains at Crown Center.  And, by the way, KC Jiggle Jam was a TOTAL RIP OFF.....had to pay to get into the festival just to play in the fountains!!  Then, they returned to Grandma Sue and Papa Jim's to come down with fevers and sore feet!  A quick e-mail to the family doc and an appointment with him, HAND FOOT MOUTH DISEASE!!  So, needless to say they have been quarantined at Grandma Joyce and Papa Jerry's house for the week.  Chris and I miss our kiddos...and they miss their baby brother!!!  At least, they are fever free now and no new lesions....might be able to see them tomorrow~~a whole week without giving your sick kids love is hard on a stressed out set of parents!!

Disclaimer:
ALL OF THE FOLLOWING PICS ARE PRE-ILLNESS.....we did not expose our NICU baby to HAND FOOT MOUTH DISEASE!!!
The playground!!

Playing with Daddy....not sure who the biggest kid is?  Chris, Mackenzie or Carson?

Can't get all three facing the same direction with a smile!  Can they be any cuter?

And, here's the true picture of our kiddos...Carson being goofy, Kenzie rolling her eyes, and Will just hanging out WAITING for surgery!!!

  3. Oh Sara!!!! I know what it feels like to have a baby in the hospital and a sick kid at home...my heart is aching for you. I remember loosing it when that was happening, so I want you to know that it's okay to get mad and frustrated, but remember that we are all thinking of you and know that things will be better. I would have been the same way if they'd told me surgery had to be next Wednesday. Thinking of you all!!!!
